Small rant about video resolution & 3D TV
so in the next year & a half 1440p will be the new video standard (mostly on Blu-ray discs only, seeing as how almost no TV service does 1080p for anything, mostly 720p or 1080i, although FiOS and DirectTV have about 1 to 3 1080p streams) . The Blu-ray format will be updated most likely to support this new resolution.
And then about 4 to 5 years out it seems, the new video standard will be 2160p, again mostly seen only on a disc format, and well it would also be on streaming video over IP if the United States internet speeds were up to par with the rest of the developed nations out there, but sadly we are not, and who knows when and if we ever will be. All of the United states should be running at 100Mbps, no excuse!
Where am I going with this, just the fact that it is almost impossible to ever justify investing money into a media medium now that will eventually be old/extinct and just not as good.
In some ways we were spoiled with DVD, it lasted for 15+ years and gradually got better itself as video codecs improved, but no radical changes were made where everyone had to change their hardware and re-buy all their media
OH and in between all of this, starting actually right now, unfortunately 3D is to be heavily incorporated in all new and current video standards. My issue with 3D is it is extremely horrible for your eyes, and over long periods of exposure can lead to insanely bad/violent headaches. Otherwise it is cool, except for the annoying fact to always have to wear glasses to enjoy it, also even the best 3D I have seen is always blurry, and you lose so much detail with that =/
I love the idea of 3D television for anything nature/science/space based content as well as most sports though.
